This weekend was such a treat! We went up to the cabin where we had way too much food and tons of relaxing. It is so great to be home though. Going to the cabin is one of my favorite things but just being home is such a great thing. So from this weekend it was conference and I just wanted to say a few things I have been thinking about.
The boys got home from Priesthood session and we all asked what they talked about. They said of course to be better and to treat your wives better. We then had a conversation about how men always get chastised and women get praised and they tell us to feel better about our accomplishments...which Uchtdorf did say just the week before at women's conference, I believe his whole talk was on it. This got me to thinking why do the prophets and apostles say these things and treat us so kindly and the men so harshly...to be honest I think it is because they can take it. Why can't we? Why are we always so hard on ourselves? Why do the little things bother us when our husbands could care less? Not to say that men are heartless but that we care too much! This drives me crazy but why do we still do it?! We still strive for perfection when we know it is not achieveable.
After a talk in my class today about this subject I realized what we need to do...not why because there really is no need to be so hard on ourselves. In a lot of the talks over this conference there was a theme of despair, not so much how life is so sad and too bad but a sense that we all have hard stuff we go through, but like the Young Women's President said with God, all things are possible. From this conference I don't know if I learned anything more valuable as hope. Life is hard that is just how it is but we need to enjoy it and realize that there is hope and these experiences are to make us happier and stronger. This is a hard concept I think that is why I still struggle but really from this day on I will find that strength and know that I am great as a woman and that these experiences really are to bring joy. I think maybe there will be brighter days ahead!
